How bicycles are ridden without falling?

Bicycles are convenient vehicles. Yet, despite its two wheels, a bicycle doesn’t tumble while riding. What could the mechanism operating behind this, be? Let us examine this. It is easy to cycle if the bicycle is known. Firstly, let us see the parts of a bicycle. It is two-wheelers dynamic power.

The façade of a bicycle resembles an inverted triangle. Such things are unstable while standing still. therefore, bicycles when stopped will fall if not supported. but it is hard to fall while riding. How is it possible o ride on an unstable bicycle?  A well-proportioned object is stable when the base area is large and the centre of gravity (gathering point of gravity in an object) is low. It is because of the perfect balance maintained by the person riding the bicycle. When thrown out of balance and about to be fallen, the body can be twisted hurriedly into equilibrium. The body is equipped with the sense of retaining balance. Therefore, even while riding bicycles, the centre of gravity of the body and the direction of the handle is adjusted unconsciously.

It's okay. By remembering the tips, anyone can naturally ride a bicycle. First, adjust the saddle according to the height reachable by the legs and get o the bicycle. Next, practise walking in the same posture. If extra strength is applied, balance can be lost; it is better to loosen the thrust of the shoulders. Bicycles do not lose balance because they can be turned using handles. While riding very slowly, balance can be maintained by moving the handle diligently. The bicycle requires assistance to stand by itself. Cannot bicycles stand by themselves? Various factors help in preventing a bicycle from falling while riding. Point A which touches the ground surface is behind point B which extends the axis of the handle. In this case, the centre of gravity of the cycle’s front wheel, handle etc rests on the position of Point A.

The centre of gravity A is before the extended axis of handle B, therefore when the cycle body tilts to the left side, force is produced in such a way that the wheel gets oriented towards the left. E.g., try balancing a stick pierced with a ball of clay stand on your finger. When it is about to fall, move body and hand towards the falling direction and regain balance. A cycle’s wheel oriented towards the direction of the tilted body has the same effect as the balancing of this stick. If the body is advanced in the falling direction, then stability can be restored. Hence, if the handle is not turned, then immediately the cycle would fall. Let us experiment with a top.

A top is also an unstable structure. But it maintains balance during rotation. This is because while revolving, force is produced towards the centre. When an object revolves, the force towards the outer circle (centrifugal force) and the force towards the centre of the object (centripetal force) is produced. The volume of both forces is equal. the faster the rotation, the stronger the force. Therefore, if the top is about to fall, it can stand upright; converse to the centre of gravity. This is known as the Gyro effect. The same effect is seen in bicycles also.

Now let us consider the side turning of cycle wheels as in top. Just as in a top, force is produced in cycle wheels to prevent a bicycle from falling. And during the force is added to the inclined direction of the axle. This force operates in the changed direction of the wheels. The bicycle handle is to be turned onto the inkling side. This is similar to balancing which was seen a while ago. These forces do not occur if the rotation speed is slow. An object while moving acquires the property to continue moving in the same direction at the same speed but the movement is stopped by the influence of atmosphere resistance, ground friction etc. therefore, to maintain the speed, it is necessary to continue feeding force. Therefore, to maintain the speed, it is necessary to continue the feeding force.

For the wheels to continue rotation, the peddling must continue. It’s right but not hurriedly. Bicycles are reliable vehicles. Who was the first to invent bicycles? It was believed for a long time that Noble Comte de Sivrac, a noble man of France was the inventor. But many don’t agree. In Europe, each country claims the invention of bicycles. Today many agree that German baron Karl von Drais was the first to invent a two-wheeled, the human-propelled machine that has today evolved to be a bicycle. Bicycles were called Draisine, which was coined from the inventor’s name.

Bicycles with pedals were invented much later. Initially, it moved by kicking the ground. Bicycles progressed in this manner. Safer and easy-to-ride improvements were made. Bicycles are vehicles of enjoyment if the balance between the rider and the machine is well-maintained. However, watch out for cars while riding on bicycles.
